Maamawi: Together Through The Fire
O.Dela Arts is thrilled to announce our partnership with Pepper’s Ghost Collective on the creation of Maamawi: Together Through The Fire, a new dance creation in development through 2022-2023. Set 200 years into the future, we are invited to experience the possibility of what could happen if humankind awakened from the aftermath of many great tragedies with renewed reverence for the traditional teachings and remembered the ones who set in motion the technology to witness the world from the heart's perspective.
Dance artists Sophie Dow and Daisy Thompson started choreographic development with co-creators Olivia C. Davies and Athomas Goldberg's VR team in the Shocap Studio this April. The creative team also includes Canadian composer Michael Red, Coast Salish Sto:lo artist Raven John and Anishinaabe artist, Joshua Mangeshig Pawis-Steckley along with Anishinaabe mentor Gloria May Eshkibok. We will be sharing a 30min excerpt of our live performance and VR experience this summer in Vancouver and Calgary.

“it's a gift and an honour to be involved in this ambitious and ground-shifting project. my part of the contributions for the work-in-progress being shown is roughly 45 minutes of original audio. a few already released tracks, a pile of unreleased content, and a pile of content made exclusively for this project. all woven together and mixed to integrate and raise up and illuminate and enhance all the other elements.”
